Abstract: Special education services, including speech therapy, must be available to all students, including those attending school virtually. This need poses special challenges for those are who SPED directors for virtual schools. Though the technology to deliver SLP services at a distance has been available for years, the rapid growth in distance education has increased the urgency. There are many questions about practical matters of online delivery and about when (and when not) to rely on online speech therapy. But there is no doubt that simple, inexpensive technologies are enabling a growing number of virtual schools to use online speech therapy to improve outcomes, tackle critical personnel shortfalls and provide access to high quality speech-language services.
